Overspending for the sake of blogging

Posted by kathrynboland on December 5, 2007

I have this idealistic view of me sitting at Second Cup drinking candy cane hot chocolate and blogging on a laptop. I don’t know if this dream grew from the large amount of media I consume or theory of habermas hammered into my head, but it makes me feel happy. It was with this dream that I found myself in line at Staples checking out laptops and placing this large purchase on my Visa. I hope for my sake that this purchase helps me accomplish more things. For it has been over a month since my last post and I have lots to write about and practically no time to do it. I have been to a few networking events with CPRS and Third Monday, but have had the time to formulate my thoughts. I know, I know, we are all in this struggle between time and life. But working two jobs, going to school full time, and volunteering part-time can break a girl’s spirit. Also, I will be going through surgery in two weeks with a recovery period of one to two months. I think laptop will be a necessity for me to get this with a sane mind. So look forward to many posts during the christmas period.

Unfortunately, I had to go home for some important appointments and I missed out on two very interesting events this week. Third Monday was held early this month for Richard Binhammer, RichardatDell from Dell Canada. I am sure this was interesting and informative night. Also, tonight was CPRS Ottawa Gatineau’s Holiday reception at the Metropolitan.

In other news, I had my first experience with Via rail’s Wi-Fi Internet today, and I must say it made my trip go by a lot faster. I mean, without the laptop I would have been bored out of my mind, but the Internet just allowed me to get a lot done on the train. I think this was the first Tuesday I handed in a writing assignment early then 11 pm, just one hour short of the deadline. For one time use, the 9 dollars was worth it and I think if I was travelling a lot more I would go as far as paying monthly, but it could just be the excitement of the new laptop and maybe the novelty will wear off.
